Welcome to the ESOL Department!
The ESOL department of PHS has been growing through the
years. The program has been at Parkville for more 30 years. In 19-20 we have 13
teachers and a bilingual instructional assistant. Several teachers are
bilingual and/or speak another language. We serve 592 students from 42
countries who speak the following languages.
Amharic, Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, Creole, Dari, English, French,
Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Igbo, Japanese, Korean, Lao, Nepali, Persian, Punjabi, Russian,
Spanish, Tagalog, Twi, Urdu, Uzbek, Vietnamese, Wolof, Yoruba
The program assists students in learning the English
language and assisting students in their content classes to reach the
graduation and open perspectives for life after high school. The program is
also supported by a bilingual assistant principal, guidance counselor, social
worker.
Several ESOL students play sports for PHS or are members of
different clubs. They go on field trips to enhance their content instruction or
visit colleges to explore pathways for their future.
The WiDA test for ESOL students starts January 8, 2020.
Students: You need to bring your charged devices with you and attend regularly.
